The project develops the theme of martyrdom faith through a concept of gradual increase and a circular spatial composition. Located on a mountainside in Gyeonggi Province, the building is only accessible via a gently sloped path, which dramatically contrasts with the wide-open plaza at the front of the building. When one passes through the entrance of the building – a horizontally extended mass with an earth-tone color that appears as if it were an extension of the ground – and enters the hall, one can feel the vertical openness created by the trapezoidal glazed glass roof. As a spiritual space that mediates between the profane and the sacred, the Hall is left empty rather than filled, and serves as an opportunity for people who visit the building to reflect in a serene mood.
